One for the Road
At the beginning of the year, I committed to doing or trying something new each month this year. I'm not big on New Year resolutions, but I thought this would be a good way to push myself even more this year to get out of my comfort zone, explore, think bigger and just enjoy new things. In setting this goal, I didn't actually have any major things in mind that I wanted to try to do. After the month of January had come and gone, I found myself thinking, "Well, that was a good idea in theory, but you didn't really do anything new." Then I realized I DID!
On January 22 around 4:45 p.m., I got a call from my agent that I'd been booked for a commercial that would be shooting in Atlanta within the coming days, but I had to be there the next morning for a fitting. Exciting news!! But it meant getting on the road ASAP to get there by morning. Not wanting me to get on the road alone, my family decided it may be best for my mom to take the drive with me, so we packed the car, gassed up and hit the road. My mom is seriously an angel. She drove the first half so I could sleep a while and drive the second leg. We made it there by 3:00 a.m. the next morning. We officially completed our FIRST girls only road trip together! Meanwhile, our men were back worried and wishing they could have come with us. HA
While we were driving, my mom mentioned to me that she'd never been to Atlanta. Of course, I wanted to make sure we found some way to make it memorable. That we did! After getting our work out of the way on day one. We booked an appointment at Winnie Couture where I ended up finding and buying my wedding dress... HUGE WIN!
We got some great meals too! Lunch at Chopt, which never disappoints. If you're ever in a city that has one give it a try. They have great, tasty and fresh salads and bowls. Please someone open a location in New Orleans!! We also tried out Old Lady Gang Southern Eatery, owned by Kandi Burruss-Tucker of Xscape and Real Housewives of Atlanta. Mom loves the show and really wanted to give it a try. I had the salmon sliders with a side of turkey collard greens and mom had the catfish and grits with a side of kandi yams. We were really impressed! The food was great, serving sizes are big and its affordably priced. Love when a place lives up to the expectations. I'd recommend it.
We did also try another first for mom! To clarify, we got our underarms waxed so we could be nice and pretty for dress shopping. HA OH and shout out to the New Orleans Saints fans in ATL for letting the haters know what's real.
Month one of trying something new went great! Let's see what we can get into in February. Subscribe to follow the journey. I'd love to hear what's new with you too!
